Landman - season 2

It’s always nice to start on a second season of a show. You have a shorthand with what to expect. We had already worked out a good system for the driving scenes. All were filmed on a green-screen stage, lit to the sun's direction, knowing where they were driving. The driving plate camera rig that I finalized in season one worked well for capturing all of the locations needed.

New challenges arose for some of the larger sequences. An oil rig blowout needed some additional oil spray and coloring. For a convention in episode six, a CGI robotic roughneck was modeled over the original to animate on cue. For the climactic scene in episode ten, a CGI oil rig barge was modeled after an original rig in Louisiana so we could animate and composite it into our river set in Fort Worth.

The beauty of Landman is that all of the visual effects needed to be photorealistic and blend seamlessly with the practical elements. And the greatest compliment is for the audience not to know we did anything at all.
